This patent discusses a new interface for Steer-by-Wire systems that can be used to influence both the steering wheel feel for the driver and the target steering angle of the actual tires. Thus, the drivers interaction with the steering wheel can be influenced by adjusted steering wheel feedbacks and on the other hand the target road wheel angle can be adjusted compared to the drivers request. The adjustment can be requested from external functions, like assistance systems like lane keeping functions as explained in Lane Keeping Assistance System with SbW. This makes it possible to completely change the drivers interaction with the vehicles steering and furthermore the vehicles behavior in certain situations.
